RELOCATING FOR RESIDENCY

I am surprised by the number of hours I am spending in search for the perfect home for rent. We are moving for my husband's anesthesiology residency training in June. He starts July 1st. The cost of living is very high in the city where we will be living. We do not want to be "house poor" so that we are limited in what we can do and what activities we can put our kids in (piano lessons, baseball, gymnastics, art lessons, etc.).

It is starting to create an extra stress in our home and in our marriage. We don't talk about it much, I think, because we each hope that the other doesn't realize how truly dreary the situation is. Separately we continuously search for homes for rent any chance we get.

We are leaving the last week of May to visit and look for a nice neighborhood and home. We have less than one week to find one. My husband will return here to work the month of June and then drive the moving truck back the last week of June. Renting definitely has its advantages (no need to pay for repairs, no stress about selling after three years, etc.) but it also has some major disadvantages: you have to take what is available at the time that you need it.

Someone found my site by googling the phrase: "why is stressful to be married to a doctor."

So, this may qualify as one of many possible answers to that question.

So fun!

On a lighter note, I am totally falling in love with desert wild flowers. They are gorgeous.

why can't he train in hospitals where you currently live? moving is stressful to you and the kids (they have to transfer schools, leaving friends behind).

i hope you find a great neighborhood. or better yet, maybe a hospital where the doctor can train that is nearer to home so you won't have to move.

hugs from the philippines :)

I am sorry for the extra stress. It isn't fun moving and having to find a new place. Good luck and let us know if you need any help. I don't know if you would be coming this way when you go in May but we would love to see you guys!
